If you love flowing silhouettes and timeless details, the long pleated skirt from sisterMAG Issue 32 is a must-make addition to your wardrobe. It’s the kind of skirt that sways beautifully with every step, thanks to its full-circle cut and crisp pleats — combining effortless elegance with thoughtful construction.
A Look at the Skirt
This is not your average pleated skirt. It’s a floor-length masterpiece, sewn from an entire circle of fabric and then permanently pleated for structure and drama. The skirt is light, full, and incredibly graceful, falling from the waist in even folds all the way to the hem. A soft grey polyester fabric was used in the original, making it suitable for all seasons — and easy on the wallet too.
You won’t find any zippers here. The design is intentionally simple: the side seam is left partly open for ease, and the waistband is custom-fitted to your waist. It even includes hanging loops for easy storage.
Size Details
This skirt is custom-sized to your waist. The free sewing instructions guide you to create a waistband that fits your exact waist measurement, so it works for all sizes.
Materials You’ll Need
5 meters of polyester fabric (with a high polyester content to hold pleats well)
Waistband fabric (same or contrasting)
Thread to match
Optional: skirt loops for hanging
💡 Tip: Fabric with a high polyester content works best, as it helps retain the pleats longer.
How to Sew It – Instructions in English
Cut your fabric to the desired length (the example uses 1 meter for a full circle).
Hem the edges immediately after cutting.
Send the fabric for pleating (the original uses “Plissee Kliss” for fast and high-quality pleating – bit.ly/2kwLtMx).
After pleating, close the side seams, leaving a small slit instead of inserting a zipper.
Make a waistband according to your waist measurement and attach it.
Don’t forget to add hanging loops inside the waistband.
Styling Idea
Pair your pleated maxi with a tucked-in blouse or a cropped knit for an instantly put-together look. Whether worn casually with flats or dressed up with heels, this skirt is all about understated glam.
