Some garments come and go with the seasons, barely making a mark in our wardrobe. But others—often simple in design yet rich in style and versatility—stay with us season after season. The bias-cut satin midi skirt is one of those timeless pieces. Elegant, flattering, and endlessly combinable, it’s no surprise that it remains a favorite among fashion lovers.
In response to popular demand, this lesson introduces a sewing pattern for a midi-length bias-cut skirt with a hidden elastic waistband, available in five standard sizes (42–50). The design can also be easily resized up to 52 or down to 40 using the gradation method.
This skirt is cut on the bias, which means both the front and back panels are cut in one piece, without a back seam or zipper. Thanks to this clever construction, the skirt hugs the figure beautifully while remaining easy to slip on and off. The model length is 76 cm, and it’s made from a thick satin fabric with a refined matte sheen, unlined for a lighter, more fluid drape. The silhouette is gently flared, offering graceful movement with every step.
The standout feature is the hidden elastic waistband. A wide elastic band is sewn onto the top edge of the skirt and folded inside as a facing. This inner facing is discreetly secured at the side seams, so the waistband is completely invisible from the outside while keeping the skirt securely in place at the waist.
Styling this skirt is pure joy. It works beautifully with cropped sweaters, pullovers, fitted tops, T-shirts, or even structured jackets. Whether you’re going for sporty, classic, or casual chic, this skirt adapts effortlessly. Pair it with sneakers, loafers, or elegant pumps depending on the look you’re after.
